Cookie Policy
Last updated: July 2025
1. What this policy covers
This policy explains how Gradeio (“we”, “us”) uses cookies and similar browser storage technologies when you use our service at gradeio.ie. We keep our use of these technologies minimal and purposeful.
2. Cookies we set
We set only one cookie:
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| cl_session | Strictly necessary | Keeps you signed in between page loads. HttpOnly — cannot be read by JavaScript. | 30 days, or until sign-out |
We do not set any advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking cookies.
3. Browser storage (not cookies)
In addition to the session cookie above, we use two browser storage mechanisms that are not transmitted to our servers:
| Technology | Key(s) | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| localStorage | cl_theme | Remembers your light/dark mode preference so the correct theme loads instantly on your next visit without a flash. |
| IndexedDB | gradeio-images | Temporarily stores student exam page images and marking-scheme images on your device so they are available across navigation steps within a grading session. This data is never uploaded to our servers except as part of the grading API call. |
You can clear both at any time via your browser’s developer tools (Application → Storage).
4. Third-party cookies
We do not load any third-party analytics, advertising, or social-media scripts. Our CDN provider (Vercel) may set its own operational cookies; refer to Vercel’s Privacy Policy for details.
5. Your choices
Because cl_session is strictly necessary for the service to function, it cannot be disabled without preventing sign-in. You can block or delete it in your browser settings, but doing so will sign you out.
To clear localStorage and IndexedDB data, open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Application tab, and clear site data for gradeio.ie.
6. Changes to this policy
If we introduce additional cookies or storage we will update this page and, where the change is material, notify you by email. The “Last updated” date above always reflects the current version.
